Minorities safe in India, their condition is bad in neighbouring countries: Rajnath

Patna, July 2 (UNI) Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said that the minorities were safe in India but were living in deplorable condition in the neighbouring countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Addressing the BJP State Executive meeting Singh spoke about the philosophy of 'Sarva Dharma Sambhav' (all dharma are possible) saying that Indian culture has been secular by nature and this is the land where everyone is free to propagate their views.
He said if minorities were safe anywhere in the world, it is in India whereas the minority community was in a bad condition in Pakistan.
Speaking about frequent riots over Shia, Sunni and Ahmadiya in Pakistan, he said that all 72 sects of Islam were living a safe life in India which is a living proof of tolerance and secularism of the country.
The Defence Minister noted that the situation was worsening in Bangladesh as well.
In view of the atrocities being committed on minority communities in neighbouring countries, the government passed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) which “most of the political parties that shed crocodile tears for minorities had opposed” he added.
“BJP is the only party in the whole world that not only advocated amendment in the Citizenship Act to end the oppression of minorities in neighbouring countries but also started working on it as soon as the government was formed and later passed it,” Singh claimed.
Appealing to people to support the BJP's resolve to implement a secular civil code, he said that the word secular added through the 42nd amendment of the Constitution during the Emergency in 1976 was not added to the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir.
Singh said that the BJP government abolished Article 370 of the Indian Constitution and only then Jammu and Kashmir became truly secular prior to which the Kashmiri Pandits were targeted there on the basis of religion.
