Meghalaya: Umiam Bridge likely to be repaired by June

Shillong, April 24 (UNI) The ongoing repair works of the Umiam Bridge at Barapani is likely to be completed by June, an official statement said on Wednesday.
The present works have been taken up under Dam Rehabilitation Improvement Project (DRIP), the main objectives of which are rehabilitation and improvement of dams and associated appurtenances safety institutional strengthening. The major works under DRIP includes drilling and grouting of dam, crack repairing and hydro-mechanical works.
“At present 60 per cent of the drilling and grouting works have been completed and as per preliminary reports, it was observed that seepage through the dam has reduced. The work is tentatively scheduled to be completed by June 30, 2024, after which the road will be opened fully for traffic,” an official statement said.

Kolkata, May 6 (UNI) Ahead of the third phase of polling in West Bengal's four Lok Sabha seats, the Election Commission of India has directed the polling authorities to ensure a special arrangement for
comfort of voters so that the current heat wave cannot deter the electorate from casting votes, especially for elders, women, and PWD (Visual impairment; speech and hearing disability) at the polling stations.
