Bengal: Fishermen rescue elephant calf from Teesta, reunite it with mother

Siliguri, Sep 21 (UNI) The timely intervention of five fishermen saved the life of a two-week-old elephant calf that was being swept away by the strong current of the Teesta river near Gajaldoba in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district on Monday morning. The incident began around 8.30 a.m. when members of the North Bengal Fishermen's Forum noticed something floating rapidly downstream. They soon heard the faint cry of an animal and realised that it was a tiny elephant calf struggling in the strong current, with only its trunk above the water.
