Bengal: Mamata backs Congress in Nandigram after her candidate withdraws

Kolkata, Sep 18 (UNI) Hours after her party's candidate for the Nandigram Assembly by-election withdrew from the contest, former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday announced that her faction would support the Congress candidate in the constituency to strengthen the INDIA bloc. The development came on a day when the Election Commission allotted new names and symbols to the two rival Trinamool Congress factions ahead of the October 6 by-elections.
