Eight UDP legislators joining BJP won't affect NPP-led govt: Meghalaya CM

Shillong, Sep 23 (UNI) Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday said that the move by eight United Democratic Party (UDP) legislators to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not impact the National People's Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, noting that the BJP has not demanded additional cabinet berths. The merger of the eight UDP legislators with the BJP within the ambit of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution has increased the BJP to a 10-seat tally, replacing the UDP, now reduced to four, as the second-largest party in the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly.
