Jharkhand: Guv calls for diversifying coal belt beyond mining

Dhanbad, Oct 9 (UNI) Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar today called for developing the coal belt as a centre of knowledge, technology, research, entrepreneurship and innovation, saying its identity should extend beyond coal and mining. Addressing the third convocation of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University in Dhanbad, Gangwar said the region had made a significant contribution to India's industrial development and energy needs, but faced challenges related to environmental protection, mining safety, workers' welfare and changing energy requirements.
