Jharkhand: HC declines to quash PMLA case after coal case acquittal

Ranchi, Sep 16 (UNI) The Jharkhand High Court has held that acquittal in a predicate offence does not automatically end proceedings under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) if the acquittal is still open to appeal. Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, hearing a petition filed by Amar Mandal, declined to quash the Enforcement Directorate's ECIR registered under Sections 3 and 4 of the PMLA. Mandal had sought quashing of the Enforcement Case Information Report after a Godda court acquitted him on February 10, 2026, in cases relating to alleged illegal transportation of coal.
