Centre looks at use of pipes instead of canals for water conveyance

New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) The central government plans to adopt alternate technology for mega water conveyance systems in the country. The water grid will be on the lines of power grid and road networks, Union Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Nitin Gadkari said here on Friday.
Speaking at an international workshop on "Use of Large Diameter Pipes for Mega Water Conveyance System", the Minister observed that the country did not have water shortages but faced the challenge of finding cost effective, environment-friendly technology for efficient water transfer without compromising on quality.
Minister of State Satyapal Singh said Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra had started using pipes for water conveyance in place of canals.
