Case lodged after 'desecration' of south Kashmir mosque and shrine

Srinagar, April 26 (UNI) J&K Police has registered a case after a shrine and a mosque in South Kashmir’s Tral area of Pulwama district was allegedly desecrated by unknown miscreants.

Police suspect that this was done by miscreants to foment trouble and disturb peace and order.

Police said last night, some miscreants attempted to disrespect the local shrine and a mosque in Dadsara in Tral by damaging windowpanes and also tried displacing the Quran in a manner lacking respect.

A case has been registered by police under relevant sections of law.

A police statement said citizens be assured that the police is hunting the perpetrators and will nab them soon.

“They will be dealt with the heavy hand under the law. Besides being put behind bars, all others who have instigated or facilitated such criminals with the motive of disturbing peace by misusing the highly revered symbols of almighty too will lose all government benefits, government employment, licences and permits. The full force of the entire government shall be used to detect and punish the perpetrators,” the statement said.

BJP leader Altaf Thakur said that it is a totally unacceptable and condemnable act by all means.

“Such acts were done by vested interests in political parties in 2019 when DDC polls were going on and now again when Lok Sabha polls are underway in J&K. People are wise enough to understand who is behind such acts and will defeat the hands behind these cheap acts aimed at political gains,” Thakur said in a statement.
“Request police to probe the incident threadbare and bring those behind the act to justice forthwith,” Thakur said while appealing people of people to stay calm and not fall prey to rumours and “politics of deceit”.
