New Delhi, Oct 16 (UNI) BJP on Tuesday fielded B Y Raghavendra son of party strongman and former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa for by-election to the prestigious Shimoga parliamentary seat.
An announcement to this effect was made by Union Minister and senior party leader J P Nadda, who is secretary to the BJP central election committee.
Curiously the contest for Shimoga Lok Sabha seat is turning interesting as BJP's ally JD (U) is likely to field Mahima Patel, son of another former Chief Minister J H Patel while the state's ruling party JD(S) has fielded former Chief Minister S Bangarappa’s son Madhu Bangarappa to take on Yeddyurappa’s son in a constituency which is generally known as a bastion of Mr Yeddyurappa.
The by-elections are to be held on November 3.
In 2014 parliamentary polls, Mr Yeddyurappa won the seat by a huge margin. While the former Chief Minister of BJP had polled 606216 votes, his nearest Congress rival Manjunath Bhandary could poll only 242911 votes.
The BJP strongman had vacated the seat earlier this year after his victory in the assembly poll.
BJP leader Mr Nadda also announced party tickets for Ms J Shanta for Bellary (ST) seat while Siddaramegowda will be BJP nominee for Mandya Lok Sabha seat.
The BJP announcement also said that Shrikant Kulkarni will be the party candidate for Jamkhandi assembly seat while L Chandrasekhar will be the saffron party nominee for Ramanagaram assembly constituency.
