Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary will be closed to tourists for three months

Kendrapara, Apr 25 (UNI)The Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary will be closed to tourists for three months from May 1st to July 31st, due to the breeding and nesting activities of Estuarine Crocodiles, DFO of Mangrove Forest Division (Wildlife) in Rajnagar, Sudarshan Gopinath Jadhav said on Thursday.
During this period, access to crocodile-inhabited areas at Bhitarkanika, including Dangamala and Ragadapati forest blocks within the sanctuary, will be restricted to visitors.
This measure is taken to prevent disturbances to the reptiles during their nesting and breeding phases, which could provoke aggression. Crocodile attacks are most frequent during these periods.
