AP: Former CM Jagan Reddy extends support to protesting medical students

Vijayawada, July 2 (UNI) Former Chief Minister and YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy today expressed deep concern over the plight of medical students who studied abroad and are now being denied Permanent Registration (PR) numbers by the government.
He strongly condemned the police attack on the students last night and extended his full support to their protest.

Reddy said that this government is harassing students and their families. A group of students, along with YSRCP Student Wing leaders, met him at the party central office in Tadepalli this morning.

The students explained that despite completing their medical courses abroad, clearing the FMGE examination, and completing internships as per NMC guidelines, the government is refusing to issue PR numbers. Some students also said they are being forced to do internships beyond the mandatory period without pay.

Jagan recalled that during his government, 17 government medical colleges were established to increase medical seats, and five of them were already operational. But this government stopped
the remaining colleges and even returned the medical seats allocated by the Centre.
He assured the students that YSRCP would stand with them until justice is done. YSRCP Student Wing leaders Panuganti Chaitanya, A Ravichandra, and several young doctors were present.
