Scientists warn of possible strong El Niño threat to India in 2026-27

Pune, Sep 20 ( UNI) India could face heightened risks from a potentially strong El Niño event in 2026-27, with scientists warning that changes in Pacific Ocean temperatures could affect monsoon rainfall, heatwaves, water availability and ecosystems across the country. More than 180 Indian environmental and climate researchers have called for closer monitoring and early preparations to assess the possible effects of an intensifying El Niño, according to a report released on Sept. 16.
