Legal notice issued against proposed capture of 'Kannur Makhna'

Kochi, Sep 30 (UNI) The Animals And Nature Ethics Community (ANEC) Trust has issued a 60-day statutory notice under Section 55(c) of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, to Kerala Forest and Wildlife authorities over the proposed capture, chemical immobilisation, transportation and possible confinement of Schedule-I wild elephant KM-1, popularly known as 'Kannur Makhna'. The Trust has sought immediate statutory, judicial, veterinary and scientific scrutiny of the proposed 'Operation Kannur Makhna', urging authorities to ensure that no irreversible intervention is undertaken unless all safeguards prescribed under law are demonstrably satisfied.
