Surjewala attacks UPI fee, warns of burden on consumers and traders

Bengaluru, Sept 16 (UNI) Congress leader and AICC general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala on Wednesday accused the Centre of imposing an additional financial burden on traders and consumers through the proposed Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on high-value UPI transactions, and questioned the government's justification for the move. Addressing reporters here, Surjewala claimed that UPI transactions worth Rs 314 lakh crore were recorded in 2025-26 and projected the volume to reach Rs 400 lakh crore in the current financial year.
