Monsoon withdrawal reaches Chandigarh; isolated rain is likely in Haryana and Punjab before the dry spell
Panchkula, Sept 28 (UNI) The southwest monsoon has withdrawn up to Chandigarh, while isolated rainfall is likely over Haryana, Punjab, and Delhi on Monday before largely dry weather sets in across the region, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The IMD said the southwest monsoon withdrawal line continued to pass through Gurdaspur, Chandigarh, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Dholpur, Udaipur, Deesa, and Naliya. According to the department's seven-day rainfall forecast, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi are likely to receive isolated rainfall on September 28 and remain dry from September 29 to October 4. Punjab has been given an identical forecast-isolated rainfall on Monday followed by dry weather for the next six days.
Himachal Pradesh is likely to receive scattered rainfall on September 28 and isolated rain on September 29 and 30 before turning dry from October 1. Uttarakhand is expected to see much more active weather, with fairly widespread rainfall and isolated heavy rain forecast for Monday. The IMD said a western disturbance was present as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu, between 5.8 km and 7.6 km above mean sea level.
A low-pressure area over northern parts of central Uttar Pradesh had become less marked, although its associated upper-air cyclonic circulation persisted over east Uttar Pradesh. The weather office said minimum temperatures were near normal at several places over Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi. The lowest minimum temperature over the plains of India was 16.8 degrees Celsius at Delhi Ridge, while the country's highest maximum temperature was 40.2 degrees Celsius at Phalodi in Rajasthan, according to observations for September 27.
Rain outlook for the rest of India In central India, isolated to scattered rainfall is forecast over west Madhya Pradesh till September 30, east Madhya Pradesh till October 1, Vidarbha till October 2, and Chhattisgarh till October 3. Thunderstorms and lightning are also possible over parts of the region. In eastern India, isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, and sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim through October 3, while Bihar may receive rain till October 1.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rain on September 28 and 29, with isolated heavy rainfall on Monday. In the Northeast, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are forecast to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall on September 30. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh on September 30 and over Assam, Meghalaya, and the northeastern states during September 29-30. In western India, isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra through October 3.
Marathwada may receive rain on September 28-29, while rainfall is forecast over Saurashtra and Kutch from September 30 to October 3. Rainfall activity is expected to remain significant over parts of southern India. Isolated heavy rain is forecast over south interior Karnataka from September 28 to October 1, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from September 29 to October 1, and Kerala and Mahe from September 30 to October 3. Meanwhile, a depression over the north Andaman Sea and adjoining Myanmar coast was located about 590 km east-northeast of Mayabandar at 5.30 am on Monday.
The IMD said it was likely to intensify into a deep depression during the next 12 hours and move north-northwestwards along and off the Myanmar coast towards the northeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Bangladesh coast over the next three days. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into specified parts of the Andaman Sea, the east-central and southeast Bay of Bengal, and waters off the Myanmar coast due to squally weather and rough to very rough sea conditions.
