Mirwaiz appeals for public support to MMU's social reform initiative

Srinagar, Sep 18 (UNI) Kashmir's chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday appealed to people to support and actively participate in the social reform initiatives recently adopted by the Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) Jammu and Kashmir, saying meaningful change requires collective participation by society. Addressing the Friday congregation at the historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar, Mirwaiz said scholars from different regions and schools of thought had deliberated at a recent Ulema conference on pressing social concerns, including drug addiction, suicides and emotional distress among youth, misuse of social media, weakening family bonds, environmental degradation and the need to strengthen communal harmony.
