Ladakh's rock check dams withstand 200-cusec water flow, minor breach reported at Upshi

Srinagar, Sept 19 (UNI) Five innovative rock check dams constructed across the Sindhu River and its tributaries in Ladakh have successfully withstood water flows exceeding 200 cusecs during peak summer, with only a minor breach reported in one structure at Upshi near Leh, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena said on Saturday. In a post on X, the LG said that the innovative rock check dams, conceived as lasting solution for water and agricultural sustainability in Ladakh, have borne encouraging results. The check dams were constructed over four months beginning May 27, when the river's water flow was around 20 cusecs.…
