Cong conspiring to undermine democratic values for political gain: UP CM

Lucknow, Sep 27 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath strongly criticised all opposition parties, including the Congress, for weakening the Constitutional institutions.

Speaking to reporters at his official residence on Sunday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that these people have been part of every conspiracy to harm India's constitutional institutions and weaken democratic values for political gain. The CM said that the actions and statements of the country's main opposition party and other parties associated with the UPA alliance are irresponsible and amount to undermining democratic values.

They have spread confusion regarding the SIR. This is not the first time the SIR has been conducted. SIRs have been conducted in the country several times before, including in 1952, 1957, 1961, 1965-66, and 2003. The Chief Minister said that the uproar created by the Congress, SP, RJD, and other parties regarding this SIR's action is extremely unfortunate. The Congress, which has ruled the country for the longest time, is continuously criticising the Election Commission.

He quipped that if opposition parties like the SP, Congress, and RJD win elections, it is due to their efforts, but if the public rejects them due to corruption, financial misconduct, misgovernance, and anarchic activities, the Election Commission and EVMs are to blame. These parties should reflect and introspect on their childish statements.

The Chief Minister said that these people constantly put every constitutional institution on trial. They are constantly attacking the Election Commission. Former Congress President and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi had questioned the impartiality of India's judiciary in Cambridge. In 2019, the CAG gave its observations on the Rafale issue, which the Congress also questioned. Elections conducted using EVMs resulted in Congress governments at the Centre and in several states. Calling EVMs a black box and questioning India's electoral system and the world's largest democracy is unfortunate. The Chief Minister accused the Congress of not believing in constitutional and democratic values.

When the Congress sinned by strangling the Constitution of India on June 25, 1975, governments led by them sinned unethically, toppling all the governments elected by opposition parties. Due to their corrupt practices and financial misconduct, they have consistently compromised the internal and external security of the country. Questioning the valour of India's brave soldiers during the Balakot airstrike and Operation Sindoor is not patriotism. Congress and its allies are currently engaging in similar irresponsible actions. The Chief Minister stated that prior instructions regarding the SIR were issued, stating that excluded voters have complete freedom to fill out the form.

The Supreme Court upheld the Election Commission's action regarding Form 6. Yet, the Congress and its allies' attempts to defame India and weaken the largest democracy by putting the Election Commission, the Chief Election Commissioner, and all constitutional institutions in the dock are extremely shocking. Congress should control its irresponsible actions. There is no place for violence, sabotage, and propaganda in democracy. The Chief Minister stated that the three Election Commissioners have clarified the Election Commission's functioning, the missing voters, and Form 6 before the media.

Now, no questions arise, but the Congress, Samajwadi Party, and its allies' attempts to nitpick are unfortunate. A conspiracy is being hatched to undermine democratic values and institutions. India has given every adult voter the freedom to vote without discrimination based on caste, region, language, or gender from day one, and the right to add names to the voter list until the day before the election. Questioning the transparent process is tantamount to undermining democratic values. Congress and its allies should apologise to the public and the country's constitutional institutions for their actions.
