UP bans sale of 'Puja Ghee', issues strict directions to food establishments establishments

Lucknow, Oct 11(UNI) Amid complaints that inedible fat products prepared for puja, havan, and lamp lighting are being sold in the market as edible ghee, the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA), Uttar Pradesh, has taken a stern stand. Commissioner Dr Roshan Jacob has issued detailed directions, effective immediately, to all food licence and registration holders in the state, banning the manufacture, storage, and sale of any product under the name "Puja Ghee." According to the Commissioner's order, some food manufacturing units are using vanaspati, refined oil, essence, paraffin, mineral oil and other chemical substances or fats to prepare material…
