PM Modi remembers Lata Mangeshkar on birth anniversary, says her voice will resound through generations

In a post on social media platform X, Modi said, "My respectful tributes to the revered Lata Didi on her birth anniversary, who brought glory to the country across the world through her divine singing talent. She not only enriched India with her melodious voice but also consistently encouraged every initiative associated with the nation's prosperity. Her unparalleled contribution to the world of Indian music will be remembered for generations to come."
Widely revered as the Nightingale of India, Mangeshkar remains one of the most celebrated playback singers in the history of Indian cinema, with a musical career spanning several decades and thousands of songs in multiple Indian languages. Born on September 28, 1929, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, she began her musical journey at a young age and went on to become one of the defining voices of Indian cinema. Her renditions of romantic melodies, devotional compositions, patriotic songs and classical-based film music earned her an unparalleled place in the hearts of millions of listeners.
Her iconic patriotic song "Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon", performed in 1963 in the presence of then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, remains one of the most memorable musical tributes to India's soldiers. Her vast repertoire also includes timeless Hindi film songs and numerous regional-language compositions that continue to be cherished across generations.
In recognition of her exceptional contribution to Indian music, Mangeshkar received several of the country's highest civilian honours, including the Bharat Ratna in 2001. She was also honoured with the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award during her illustrious career.
