Supreme Court orders fresh polls in Punjab municipal wards where panel found violence

New Delhi, Sep 28 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Monday ordered fresh elections in wards of Punjab's Patiala Municipal Corporation where a court-appointed fact-finding committee found that violence during the Punjab 2024 municipal elections had marred the electoral process, after the Punjab government agreed to accept the panel's report. The committee, headed by former Punjab and Haryana High Court judge Justice Nirmaljit Kaur, was appointed by the Supreme Court in March 2025 to examine allegations relating to the municipal elections, including claims that candidates had been prevented from filing nominations and that nomination papers had been snatched or torn.
