Iran lifts formal ban on use of foreign messaging apps

Tehran, Sept 16 (Sputnik/UNI) Iran has lifted the formal ban on the use of foreign messaging apps by government agencies, Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said.

"One of the issues addressed in a resolution adopted a few days ago is the lifting of the ban on government agencies operating on foreign messaging platforms," Mohajerani said in a statement on Tuesday.

She noted that the measure will help Tehran in the information war, but emphasised that the decision does not mean administrative correspondence will be conducted via foreign messaging apps.
