Mithu Mukherjee, veteran Bengali actress, dies at 71 in Mumbai

Mumbai, Sep 21 (UNI) Veteran Bengali actress Mithu Mukherjee died at a private hospital in Mumbai on Sunday night following a prolonged battle with cancer, according to hospital and film industry sources. She was 71. Mukherjee, who was born in Kolkata on June 19, 1955, had reportedly been undergoing treatment for cancer for nearly a year. She had kept away from the public spotlight in recent years after making Mumbai her base. She entered the Bengali film industry as a teenager with Chitta Bose's Shesh Parba in 1971, when she was 17.
