55 neonatal deaths at Malda Medical College in September

Siliguri, Sep 26 (UNI) Fresh concern has emerged over neonatal deaths at Malda Medical College and Hospital, with 55 newborns dying at the hospital between September 1 and September 24. The figure has raised concern in different quarters, although hospital authorities said that most of the deaths were of critically ill newborns suffering from malnutrition, low birth weight and complications associated with pregnancy among adolescent mothers. The authorities also pointed to cases referred from private nursing homes in critical condition.
