FSSAI proposes ban on non-milk products using 'Paneer' name

New Delhi, Sep 24 (UNI) The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has proposed a major change in the way paneer and paneer-like products are manufactured, labelled and sold, seeking to stop dairy analogues from being marketed simply as "paneer". The proposal is aimed at protecting consumers from being misled about the nature and composition of the food product they are purchasing. Under the proposed amendment, products made using non-milk ingredients that fall under the "analogue in dairy context" category would no longer be permitted to use the term "paneer" in their name, label or marketing.
