Rahul Gandhi demands 'real figure' of COVID deaths in India

Rahul Gandhi demands 'real figure' of COVID deaths in India

New Delhi Nov 28 (UNI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday alleged that the government’s figures on the COVID-19 deaths are false and the center must compensate each family, who lost someone to the coronavirus pandemic, with Rs 4 lakh.
“The stories of the families of the Covid dead are true, their pain and suffering are true. Government statistics are false. Government should release the real figures and give the compensation to deceased families
#4LakhDenaHoga,” Gandhi tweeted.
Continuing his attack on the government over COVID -19 related death case, Rahul also tweeted a video about victims’ families from Gujarat.
In the video, the families narrated their experience during the pandemic.
In the video, Rahul Gandhi said: "During the COVID pandemic, the truth of Gujarat’s development model was exposed." He shared several news items and mocked the “Gujarat’s development model”.
“There is a lot of discussion about the Gujarat model. All the families that we spoke to all have said that, during the COVID pandemic they could neither find beds, nor oxygen or ventilators,” he said.
He also alleged that around 3 lakh people have died due to COVID in Gujarat alone, but the state government claimed that only 10,000 people have died due to the pandemic.
“The government job is to protect our citizens because it pays taxes. If a person has lost some family to COVID the truth has to come out and these people should get their rightful compensation,” he said.
“In this difficult time we wanted to stand by your side and we wanted to assure you that we are all with you and there is no need to worry.
In India there are lakhs of families who have lost their mother, father, brother and sister but remember one thing Congress party will do whatever it takes to help those families get Rs 4 lakh compensation,” he said.
