Singapore's PM says will resign on May 15

Singapore, April 15 (UNI) Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Monday that he would step down on May 15, with his deputy and finance minister, Lawrence Wong, groomed to take over on the same day.
"Last November, I announced my intention to step down as Prime Minister this year. I will relinquish my role as Prime Minister on 15 May 2024 and DPM [Deputy Prime Minister] Lawrence Wong will be sworn in as the next Prime Minister on the same day ... I ask all Singaporeans to give Lawrence and his team your full support, and work with them to create a brighter future for Singapore," Lee said in a statement on social media.
He will formally advise the city-state's president to appoint 51-year-old Wong as prime minister, with the inauguration scheduled for 8:00 p.m. (12:00 GMT) on May 15 at the Istana national palace, the prime minister's office said.
