Mizoram MP facilitates talks for speedier completion of Kaladan project

Aizawl, Mar 1 (UNI) Mizoram’s lone Rajya Sabha member K. Vanlalvena met both IRCON company officials and militants belonging to Myanmar’s Arakan Army (AA) insurgent group at the Mizoram-Myanmar border and held talks for early completion of the Kaladan Multi Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP), an official statement said on Friday.
The KMMTT project is being taken up as part of Act East Policy by the central government to link southern Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district to Sittwe port in Myanmar’s Rakhine state, from where there will be a sea link with Kolkata port.
Vanlalvena and his team met the Assam Rifles personnel at their camp at Zorinpui, the proposed Indo-Myanmar border trade center, on Thursday morning and held talks with the contractors constructing the road from Lawngtlai town to Zorinpui.
