Voter awareness program draws hundreds in Meghalaya

Shillong, Apr 5 (UNI) Hundreds of people on Friday assembled at Byrnihat, the northern entry-point of Meghalaya, to listen to the message from the U Sangot, the traditional Khasi information broadcaster, which has been adopted as a part of the Election Commission of India’s voter awareness programme in the tribal-majority state.
Dressed in traditional Khasi costume, the U Sangot on Friday played a pro-active role in spreading voter awareness among the tribal hoi polloi, who had assembled on Friday at Byrnihat for the weekly market.
J. Syngkli, the Rangbah Shnong (Headman) of Byrnihat introduced the U Sangot and his team to the people, who had assembled at the market from different villages along the northern periphery of Ri Bhoi district.

Special arrangements for voters & polling personnel to combat heat wave condition: ECI

Kolkata, May 6 (UNI) Ahead of the third phase of polling in West Bengal's four Lok Sabha seats, the Election Commission of India has directed the polling authorities to ensure a special arrangement for
comfort of voters so that the current heat wave cannot deter the electorate from casting votes, especially for elders, women, and PWD (Visual impairment; speech and hearing disability) at the polling stations.
