Kolkata, April 9 (UNI) The Kolkata Police on Tuesday assured schools authorities in the city not to panic over emails received regarding planting of bombs in some educational institutions asserting that they were hoax emails.
"It has come to our attention that emails threatening the presence of bombs has been received by some schools in the city.
"We want to assure you that this mail is a hoax and there is no credible threat to any school," the Kolkata Police said in a statement and urged the schools and parents not to panic.
"In the past, similar mails were sent to schools in cities like Bangalore and Chennai," the city police clarified after some of the schools got such mails about the presence of bombs in the school premises.
The police said a case has been registered against the sender of such prank mail and investigation has been started.
"We understand that receiving such messages can be distressing, but please remain calm and rest assured about the safety of students. In the meantime we urged everyone to refrain from spreading rumours or panicking," Kolkata Police said.
"We are also in touch with the schools for any help they need," the statement added.
