Karnataka to move SC over drought relief again: Surjewala

Karnataka to move SC over drought relief again: Surjewala

Belagavi (Karnataka), April 28 (UNI) Karnataka's Congress in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala has said that the state government will once again approach the Supreme Court regarding the central government's drought relief allocation of Rs 3,452 crore, which is drastically short of the total Rs 18,172 crore initially requested by the state.
Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of neglecting the interests of Kannadigas and Karnataka farmers following the BJP's defeat in the 2023 Assembly polls, the AICC General Secretary asserted that the duo has deprived the state of Rs 14,718 crore, metaphorically leaving behind an empty pot (Chombu).
Urging voters to rebuff the BJP in the forthcoming elections on May 7, Surjewala stressed that MLAs, MLCs, and party candidates would champion this cause in the "people's court."
He expressed optimism regarding the Congress party's electoral prospects, foreseeing a substantial increase from the solitary seat secured in 2019 to 25 seats this time.
The statements made by Surjewala underscore a heightened political standoff over the issue of drought relief funds in Karnataka, as the Congress pointed at the central government's neglect under the BJP's leadership.
