Cong accuses BJP of attacking its polling agents in Tripura

Agartala, April 20 (UNI) The Congress on Saturday alleged that following the first phase of Lok Sabha election on Friday, ruling BJP cadres attacked several houses of opposition supporters in Abhoynagar, Badharghat, and Nandannagar areas of the city at night, besides multiple locations of Bishalgarh and Sonamura in Sepahijala and Belonia in South Tripura.
Returning Officer of West Tripura Dr Vishal Kumar along with Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Kiran Kumar K took action and it was said that names of the accused persons have been found and they will be arrested.
The INDIA bloc candidate of West Tripura, Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha alleged that since Wednesday night BJP miscreants have resorted to terror tactics in different locations. Saha alleged that they threatened voters against voting if they wished to live peacefully.
They prevented a large number of opposition supporters from entering the polling stations and in the afternoon the entire polling process was rigged by proxy voting with the help of presiding officers and polling staff, Saha alleged and added, “So-called close circuit cameras and webcasting were stopped in the afternoon for rigging. Everywhere the same thing was reported.”
Allegedly, the house of Halema Khatun in Nandannagar and the house of Biplab Chowdhury in Abhaynagar were attacked at night for performing duty as polling agents for the INDIA bloc, and their houses were vandalized and residents were beaten up, Saha alleged. The opposition parties’ agent Shyamal Roy and the women in his family were beaten up in Badharghat Sripalli.
However, Dr Kumar said barring a few stray incidents, the Lok Sabha polls in West Tripura were completely peaceful. About 17 complaints came to his notice regarding the West Tripura Lok Sabha seat, including six written complaints, telephone calls, and through Facebook and X handles. Every complaint is investigated and appropriate action was taken.
