US-Iran-Oman nearing interim Strait of Hormuz agreement amid attempts to reduce hostilities

Washington/Tehran/Muscat, Aug 5 (UNI) The US, Iran and Oman are close to reaching an interim agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, with Washington aiming to announce the deal on Wednesday, according to two regional sources and a US official.
The proposed agreement, which has been under negotiation for several weeks, is intended to restore the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran as well as for creating conditions for facilitating renewed negotiations over the Islamic Republic's nuclear programme.
US President Donald Trump on Saturday decided to hold off a planned strike at Iranian infrastructure and decided to give diplomacy another chance, even as he warned that should Tehran fail in making a deal, Washington won't hesitate to conduct a large-scale bombing campaign against Iran's civilian infrastructure, particularly its energy sector.
