Tennis: WADA will not appeal in case of doping against Poland's Iga Swiatek

Montreal (Canada), Jan 20 (UNI) The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on Monday announced that it will not appeal in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the one-month ban imposed on Polish women's tennis player Iga Swiatek, for testing positive for trimetazidine (TMZ), a prohibited substance, last August.
On November 28, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), the independent body that delivers anti-doping programmes on behalf of the International Tennis Federation, announced that Swiatek had accepted a one-month ban after the agency determined that her positive test for TMZ was caused by a contaminated melatonin product that is regulated as a medication in Poland and was sourced from a reputable pharmacy in that country.
WADA said it has has conducted a full review of the case file related to the ITIA decision, which it received on November 29. "WADA’s scientific experts have confirmed that the specific contaminated melatonin scenario, as presented by the athlete and accepted by the ITIA, is plausible and that there would be no scientific grounds to challenge it at CAS," according to a WADA media release.
