SC issues notice on plea to implement assessment of disability effectively

New Delhi, Oct 14 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice on a PIL (public interest litigation) seeking the establishment of centres across the states for the assessment of disabilities under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016.
The petition, filed by Dr Satendra Singh, a prominent disability rights activist, licensed medical professional, and adviser to the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (SCPD), also sought adequate reforms to strengthen the framework of the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (CCPD) and State Commissioners (SCPDs).
A bench, comprising Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, agreed to consider the issues raised in the PIL.
