Quality-Centric Coal Production Key to Singareni’s Future: CMD Krishna Bhaskar

Hyderabad, Feb 4 (UNI) Stressing that quality has become the defining factor in today’s coal market, State-owned Singareni Collieries Company LimitedSCCL) Chairman and Managing Director D.Krishna Bhaskar has directed Area General Managers to achieve production targets with greater emphasis on coal quality.
Addressing a high-level review meeting held via video conference from Singareni Bhavan here on Tuesday evening, Bhaskar underlined that the coal market has become increasingly quality-sensitive, with consumers willing to accept only coal that meets prescribed specifications.
He cautioned that merely chasing volumes without ensuring quality could impact the company’s long-term competitiveness and revenue stability.
“In the present market scenario, quality determines acceptance and pricing. The future of the organisation depends on our ability to consistently supply coal that meets customer requirements,” he said, urging officers and employees at all levels to align daily operations with this objective.
While noting that the company has fallen slightly behind its monthly production targets during the current financial year due to various operational challenges, Bhaskar stressed the need for intensified efforts in the remaining months.
He set clear daily operational benchmarks, directing all areas to strive for 2.20 lakh tonnes of coal production, 2.40 lakh tonnes of coal transportation, and removal of 15.5 lakh cubic metres of overburden on a sustained basis.
He said achieving these targets is critical not only for meeting annual production goals but also for improving supply reliability to key consumers, including the power and industrial sectors, thereby safeguarding Singareni’s market share.
During the meeting, Area General Managers presented updates on production progress, logistics, and quality-related initiatives in their respective regions.
The CMD reviewed constraints affecting output and emphasized timely corrective measures, improved planning, and closer coordination between production, transportation, and quality control teams.
The review meeting was attended by Director (Operations) L. V. Suryanarayana, Director (Projects & Planning) K. Venkateshwarulu, Director (Personnel & Finance) Gautham Potru, Director (E&M) M. Tirumala Rao, Executive Director (Coal Movement) B. Venkanna, GM (Coordination & Marketing) T. Srinivas, along with Corporate GMs, Area GMs, and other senior officials.
