Minority refugees from three countries who entered India till last year allowed to stay sans passport

Agartala, Sep 3 (UNI) The union Home Ministry (MHA) has allowed minority refugees from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan who reached India on or before December 31, 2024, to reside in the country without a passport or other travel documents.
The decision comes at a time when BJP's coalition partner in Tripura TIPRA Motha is pressing for action against illegal immigration from Bangladesh, considering 1971 as the base year. They also opposed the initial deadline announced in CAA - December 2014.
Under the newly enacted Immigration and Foreigners (Exemption) Order, 2025, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians who entered India on or before December 31, 2024, can now legally stay in the country even if they lack valid travel documents.
