IFFK unveils its biggest line-up yet: 206 films from 82 nations set for Dec 12 opening

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 10 (UNI) The 30th edition of the Kerala International Film Festival (IFFK) will open on December 12, presenting a massive cinematic showcase of 206 films from 82 countries across 26 curated categories—one of the most expansive selections in the festival’s history.
The festival will begin with AnneMarie Jacir’s acclaimed film 'Palestine 36', set during the 1936 Palestinian uprising and already decorated with honours including the Best Picture award at the Tokyo International Film Festival.
Mauritanian master Abderrahmane Sissako will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award this year, with five of his iconic works—among them 'Timbuktu' and 'Black Tea'—featured in a special retrospective titled The Global Griot: Sissako’s Cinematic Journey.
A centenary tribute to Egyptian legend Youssef Chahine will showcase classics such as 'Cairo Station', 'Alexandria Again', 'Forever', and 'The Other'.
The festival will also present three key works by Saeed Mirza, one of the most influential voices in Indian parallel cinema. Indonesian auteur Garin Nugroho has been chosen as the “Contemporary Filmmaker in Focus”, with five of his films included.
The World Cinema section offers 57 films, including a strong selection of queer narratives such as 'The Little Trouble Girls', 'Enzo', 'Mirrors No. 3', 'The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo', 'Amram', and 'Cotton Queen'.
A newly restored 4K version of Quentin Tarantino’s cult classic 'Pulp Fiction' will be featured as a Special Screening. Midnight Screenings will include 'Jaws', 'The Book of Si Jin', and 'Illiin'.
The Restored Classics segment brings back cinematic landmarks like Krzysztof Kieslowski’s 'Blind Chance', Sergei Eisenstein’s 'Battleship Potemkin', Charlie Chaplin’s 'The Gold Rush', and the beloved Malayalam film 'Paadaatha Paingili' directed by Sathyan Anthikad.
The International Competition category will see top global films vying for the Golden and Silver Crowns. Other prominent sections include Malayalam Cinema Today, Indian Cinema Today, and Jury Films, with the latter showcasing notable titles such as 'Santosh' and 'Iron Island'.
Theme-based packages—Female Focus, Latin American Cinema, Country Focus: Vietnam, Festival Favourites, Kaleidoscope, Past LTA Winners, and The Golden Legacy (featuring previous Golden Crown winners)—promise an expansive cinematic journey. A dedicated Homage section will honour distinguished film personalities.
Marking its 30-year milestone with 206 films and screenings across 26 categories, IFFK 2025 aims to offer an immersive and enriching experience to cinephiles, reaffirming its stature as one of India’s foremost cultural platforms.
Delegate kit distribution for the festival will begin at 11 am on December 11 at Tagore Theatre. Acclaimed Malayalam actor and 2024 Kerala State Film Award winner Lijomol Jose will receive the first delegate kit.
