Frederick E.O. Toye to helm opening episodes of 'God of War'

Los Angeles, Dec 2 (UNI) The television adaptation of the acclaimed "God of War" video game franchise has gathered fresh momentum with the appointment of Emmy-winning director Frederick E.Om Toye to guide its opening chapters.
Known for his acclaimed work on "Shōgun and The Boys", Toye joins showrunner Ronald D. Moore, who leads the creative reinvention of the series.
Pre-production is underway in Vancouver and casting has begun on God of War, which has received a two-season order. Originally greenlighted by Prime Video in December 2022, the project kicked into high gear following Moore's arrival as new showrunner last fall in a creative overhaul.
It was followed by Prime Video quietly doubling the order to two seasons earlier this year. That is not unusual for a series of this scope when a platform believes in the creative because such shows involve a lot of upfront world-building costs related to production design, set building, costumes and props that are better amortised over multiple seasons.
Based on PlayStation's hugely popular ancient mythology-themed video game, God of War follows father and son Kratos and Atreus — the roles that are now casting — as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye.
Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human, reports DEADLINE.
God of War is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Moore's Tall Ship Productions under his overall deal at Sony TV.
Toye brings with him an illustrious portfolio of more than 130 hours of acclaimed television, with directorial credits spanning "Lost", "The Walking Dead", "American Gods", "Westworld", "Watchmen" and "Person of Interest". He just completed directing the opening episodes of the streamer's upcoming series Terminal List: Dark Wolf and Bloodaxe. UNI NST SSP
