FM condoles demise of Ratan Tata, calls him a leader par excellence

New Delhi, Oct 10 (UNI) Paying tribute to industry doyen Ratan Tata, who passed away on Wednesday night at the age of 86 in a Mumbai hospital, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has lauded his contributions to industry and society.
"Saddened by the passing away of Shri Ratan Tata, a leader par excellence, visionary industrialist, and philanthropist whose contributions have left an indelible mark on our society," Sitharaman said in her condolence message on X.
The finance minister said that Tata's deep resolve to innovation, ethical business practices, and social responsibility transformed industries and uplifted communities.
"Extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His remarkable legacy will continue to inspire generations to come," she said.
Ratan Tata took over as chairman of the $100 billion salt-to-software conglomerate in 1991 and successfully grew various businesses of the group. He held the position till his retirement on December 28, 2012. Post that, Tata was conferred the honorary title of Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, Tata Industries, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, and Tata Chemicals.
Tributes have been pouring from top industrialists, political leaders, and eminent personalities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his condolence message said that Tata was a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul, and an extraordinary human being.
"He provided stable leadership to one of India’s oldest and most prestigious business houses. At the same time, his contribution went far beyond the boardroom. He endeared himself to several people thanks to his humility, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to making our society better," Modi said.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that Ratan Tata was a man with a vision, noting that the late industrialist has left a lasting mark on both business and philanthropy.
