ZP polls: Candidate declares daughter dead to contest election; rival moves HC

Satara, Jan 24 (UNI) A candidate for Zilla Parishad elections has allegedly declared one of his three living daughter as deceased in order to contest the local polls. An independent rival candidate has approached the Kolhapur circuit bench of the Bombay High Court, and the matter is scheduled for hearing on January 27.
As per prevailing election rules, individuals with three or more children are disqualified from contesting local body elections.
The incident pertains to the Saidapur in Karad taluka, where BJP candidate Sagar Shivdas has filed his nomination. Independent candidate Narhari Janrao has accused Shivdas of submitting false information in his affidavit.

Mumbai, Feb 14 (UNI) The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has intensified its action against large property tax defaulters, issuing seizure notices to 48 major entities within a week over outstanding dues amounting to Rs 1,500 crore. On Saturday, the civic body released a fresh list naming the 20 biggest defaulters, which include prominent real estate developers, mills and other establishments that have collectively failed to clear substantial arrears.

Special POCSO court orders temporary release of car belonging to dance teacher facing trial in minor harassment case

Thane, Feb 14 (UNI) A Special Court under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act in Thane has ordered the temporary return of a seized red Hyundai Verna car to dance teacher Dinesh Vivek Ghag, who is currently facing trial for allegedly following and gesturing to a 14-year-old girl. The order was passed on Saturday, after the court examined the plea filed by the accused seeking interim custody of the vehicle.

Nashik to get 50 EV buses soon; tender issued for support services

Nashik, Feb 14 (UNI) Under the Central Government’s PM E-Bus Service Scheme, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) will receive 100 electric buses in two phases, with 50 buses set to arrive during the first phase soon. The civic body’s engineering department is preparing to sign an agreement with the concerned company for the rollout.
