Yathindra likens RSS ideology to Taliban mindset, sparks fresh row

Bengaluru, Jun 16 (UNI) A fresh political storm erupted in Karnataka on Tuesday after former MLA Yathindra Siddaramaiah compared the ideology of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) with the mindset of the Taliban, alleging that both seek to impose a uniform interpretation of religion and suppress diversity of belief.Speaking to reporters, Yathindra, son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, contended that the RSS was attempting to define Hinduism through a single prescribed framework, contrary to the faith's traditionally diverse and pluralistic character. He argued that organisations wielding significant social and ideological influence should be subject to greater public accountability and legal oversight.
"Like the Taliban insists on one interpretation of Islam, the RSS wants everyone to follow one version of Hinduism," Yathindra alleged, triggering sharp reactions from political opponents.
He further called for a formal regulatory framework governing the RSS, saying organisations with extensive networks, resources and public influence should function with transparency and accountability. According to him, bringing such bodies under a registration mechanism would enhance scrutiny of their activities and finances.
