Iranian parliamentary committee advances bill to formalise control over Strait of Hormuz by charging tolls on ships

Tehran, Oct 2 (UNI) An Iranian parliamentary committee has completed its review of a proposed bill that would formalise Tehran's control over the Strait of Hormuz and allow it to charge commercial vessels for using the vital waterway. Hassan Ghashghavi, spokesman for parliament's National Security Commission, told the semi-official Tasnim news agency that the proposed "Strategic Action Plan for Ensuring Security and Sustainable Development of the Strait of Hormuz" would preserve Iranian control over maritime traffic in line with the country's national interests and security.
