World Bank report says India's progress under PM Modi is extraordinary : Sukanta

Kolkata, Apr 28 (UNI) Union minister Sukanta Majumdar has claimed that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mission "Atmanirvar Bharat" India has achieved extraordinary progress in poverty reduction, employment growth, and empowerment in the country.
Union Minister of State for Education and Development of Northeast region Sukant Majumdar quoting a World Bank's latest report, which lauded India's progress from 2011-12 to 2022-23, with over 17 crore (171 million) people having lifted out of extreme poverty.
The share of people earning less than Rs 180/day fell from 16.2 percent to 2.3 pc with a massive leap for economic empowerment. under the " Viksit Bharat New India" the report said.
: The extreme poverty in rural India dropped from 18.4 pc to 2.8 pc, in urban India, it fell from 10.7 pc to 1.1 pc" Majumdar said on his X handle.
" Most importantly, the rural-urban poverty gap has nearly vanished — from 7.7 pc to just 1.7 pc. Poverty overall has plunged from 61.8 pc to 28.1 pc," this means 380 million Indians have risen above the poverty line, he pointed out quoting the World Bank report as saying.
" An incredible, world-celebrated achievement under Modi Govt’s strong, inclusive policies like Garib Kalyan, Antyodaya It’s not just economic poverty," , Majumdar said quoting the rport .
India’s Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) — based on education, health, and living standards — fell from 53.8 pc in 2005-06 to 16.4 pc in 2019-21. He said quoting the report as " A true holistic upliftment of the poor, Sabka Vikas Employment is booming, since 2021-22,
India’s employment growth has outpaced working-age population growth and urban unemployment is down to 6.6 pc, the lowest since 2017-18.
Women’s employment has significantly improved too, the WB report noted. The men's participation increased in urban jobs and women’s participation grew in rural agricultural work.
" India is moving toward a more balanced, inclusive workforce, " Majumdar said, quoting the WB report.
