Women Reservation: A day after the bill’s fall, war of words escalates

New Delhi, April 18 (UNI) A day after the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill was defeated by a united opposition in the Lok Sabha, the BJP on Saturday slammed the Opposition—particularly the Congress and the DMK—saying that their “hypocrisy” on women’s empowerment and “constitutional illiteracy” had been exposed.
Led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior BJP leaders expressed disappointment, accusing the opposition of depriving the country’s nari shakti of new opportunities.
The opposition has committed a mistake by not supporting the Women's Reservation Bill and will face consequences, the Prime Minister told his cabinet a day after the crucial legislation was defeated amid opposition backlash over the government’s attempt to carry out delimitation in the guise of women’s reservation for political gains.
