WFI bans Vinesh Phogat from domestic events till June 26

Chandigarh, May 9 (UNI) The Wrestling Federation of India has barred Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat from participating in domestic competitions until June 26, citing alleged indiscipline and violation of anti-doping regulations.
In a 15-page show-cause notice issued on Saturday, the federation accused Phogat of failing to provide the mandatory six-month prior notice before returning from retirement, terming it a violation of the WFI constitution, United World Wrestling (UWW) regulations and anti-doping norms.
The federation said her actions had harmed the image of Indian wrestling and caused “national embarrassment”. WFI has sought her explanation on four major allegations and asked why disciplinary action should not be initiated against her.
