Mumbai, June 11 (UNI) Mumbai's water reserves have declined to critical levels as the city continues to await the arrival of the monsoon, with the cumulative stock in the seven lakes supplying drinking water to the metropolis falling to 1.80 lakh million litres (ML), representing only 12.49 per cent of their total storage capacity.
The declining reservoir levels have intensified concerns over a possible water shortage, particularly as the city is already operating under a 10 per cent water cut. According to civic officials, the usable water stock in the Upper Vaitarna reservoir has been completely exhausted, leaving the lake dependent solely on reserve stock.
Among the major reservoirs supplying water to Mumbai, Tansa, which provides approximately 440 ML of water daily, has fallen to just seven per cent of its total capacity. Middle Vaitarna currently holds around 15 per cent of its capacity, while Bhatsa, one of the city's most significant water sources, has only 11 per cent of its storage available.
