Nagpur, Oct 15 (UNI) Former Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar and Yaniv Revach, Israel's Consul General for Midwest India, have been invited to attend the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's (RSS) annual Vijayadashmi celebrations in Nagpur on October 20, the organisation said.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat will deliver the keynote address at the event, scheduled to be held at Reshimbagh, while Dainik Jagran Editor-in-Chief Sanjay Gupta will attend as the chief guest, according to an RSS release. The RSS said the programme would mark the culmination of its centenary year. Dhankhar resigned as Vice President and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha in July 2025, citing medical reasons.
The invitation has drawn a political response from the Congress, with party general secretary Jairam Ramesh remarking that the "ecosystem is at war with itself". Ramesh suggested that the invitation reflected differences within the RSS-BJP ecosystem, pointing to a possible disconnect between the RSS and the government over Dhankhar's departure from office.
The Congress leader also revisited Dhankhar's abrupt resignation in July 2025, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union Home Minister Amit Shah had pressured him to step down over his support for farmers. Critics have also highlighted the reported contrast between the RSS inviting Dhankhar to its prominent annual event and claims that he has not been provided the official residence to which he is entitled following his resignation.
