Weak SW monsoon over southern India to improve after July 17

Chennai, July 15 (UNI) The weak Southwest Monsoon over Southern peninsular India was expected to improve after July 17, the Met office said today.
It said the Southwest Monsoon is currently weak over southern Peninsular India due to the combined influence of weak cross-equatorial southwesterly flow, resulting in a weaker-than-normal Low-Level Jet (Somali Jet) over the western Arabian Sea, along with developing El Niño conditions.
These factors have reduced moisture transport from the Arabian Sea, leading to suppressed rainfall activity over Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and adjoining regions.
